Re: Congresswoman Capito Campaigning with architect of plan to end Medicare
(Charleston, West Virginia) – West Virginia Secretary of State and U.S. Senate nominee Natalie Tennant’s campaign released the following statement in response to news that Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito plans to campaign with Rep. Paul Ryan – the architect of budgets to protect tax breaks for millionaires by turning Medicare into a voucher program.
“Congresswoman Capito proved she will stop at nothing to protect tax breaks for millionaires like herself when she voted four times to cheat West Virginia seniors out of the Medicare they’ve earned,” said Tennant campaign spokesperson Jennifer Donohue. “Campaigning with the architect of plans to end Medicare as we know it proves Congresswoman Capito has no shame in trampling West Virginia seniors to line her own bank account.”
The Ryan budget, which Congresswoman Capito has voted for FOUR times, would:
· Turn Medicare into a voucher program, forcing more than 276,000 West Virginia seniors to pay $800 to keep their Medicare, and
· Use their money to give millionaires an average tax break of $200,000.
Longtime Washington Congresswoman Capito has voted for some form of the Ryan budget to end Medicare four times, in 2011, 2012, 2013, and April of 2014. Each time, Congresswoman Capito was the only member of the West Virginia delegation to support the dangerous budgets.
