While Natalie is running for Kanawha County Commission, it’s important to understand her record as a public servant. During her eight years as Secretary of State, Natalie streamlined the office to make it more efficient and cost-effective while improving services for voters, candidates, business owners, and citizens. She is proud to have returned $4 million of taxpayer money to the general revenue fund while remaining focused on conserving taxpayer dollars and ensuring government transparency.

Here are some of the results that Natalie delivered:

Business and Licensing Improvements

  • Lowered late fees for businesses and charities.
  • Led the development of the new Business for West Virginia portal, a one-stop shop that provides information and a process entry point for someone who would like to start, expand or operate a business.
  • Established Veterans Business Waiver that allows a veteran to start a business and have their initial filing fee waived as well as the subsequent 4 years of annual report fees to be waived.
  • Increased the types of business filings that could be filed online or services that could be retrieved online.

Election Reforms

  • Led the efforts for WV to join the Electronic Registration Information Center, a national record-matching consortium that helps county clerks and secretaries of state improve voter registration and voter list maintenance
  • Established Online Voter Registration
  • Made West Virginia the 3rdstate in the country to adopt automatic voter registration, an innovative policy that makes it more convenient to register to vote.
  • Led an investigation that lead to federal plea agreements and resignations for elected officials to election fraud.
  • Improved the state’s rankings on the PEW Charitable Trust’s Elections Performance Index by 19 spots.

Transparency

  • Launched a Freedom of Information Act database, which collects FOIA requests submitted to government agencies in a database searchable by the public.
  • Supported and administered more than $290,000 in HAVA grants in West Virginia, helping improve polling place accessibility and assisting those with disabilities through a variety of means.

Natalie worked for the people of West Virginia as Secretary of State and she will work for the people of Kanawha County, if elected to serve as your county commissioner.
